Ancient Echoes: Baroque & Modern Resonance brings Baroque elegance into vibrant conversation with contemporary sound worlds. Guided by Artistic Director Alexandria Le in collaboration with Jonathan Rhodes, Director of UNLV’s Early Music Ensemble, and Jennifer Bellor, Director of UNLV’s NEXTET, this intimate concert pairs the ornamentation and expressive clarity of early music with striking modern works by living composers.
Featuring both period and modern instruments—including harpsichord (the piano’s precursor), viola da gamba (cello’s ancestor), Baroque oboe and soprano alongside saxophone, clarinet and vibraphone—the program reflects, refracts, and reinterprets early musical forms.
Just as Rita Deanin Abbey drew upon traditional techniques while continually evolving and modernizing her artistic language, this program bridges centuries—honoring early forms while reimagining them through a contemporary lens.
Artists include:
Jonathan Lee Rhodes, harpsichord
Ana Angel Ortiz, Baroque soprano
Richard Kravchak, Baroque oboe
Ka-Wai Yu, Baroque viola de gamba
Bryan Conger, clarinet
Megan Kearny, saxophone
Ryan Bond, vibraphone
Capacity is limited to 75 seats, creating an intimate encounter across centuries of music. Secure your seat today before the program sells out.
